Following a High Court stay order, the Election Commission has ordered the returning officer of Gazipur to stop all election-related work.
Election Commissioner Mahbub Talukdar said on Sunday that the returning officer in Gazipur had been instructed to halt all activities.
“We got the news that the High Court has put a stay order on the election and immediately gave the order to stop all election work in Gazipur,” he said.

“We do not know any further details and will work according to the court's instructions moving forward,” he added.
Asked whether the EC would appeal against the High Court order, he said: “We will have to decide later whether we will do that or the local government ministry will.”
The Gazipur City Corporation elections were scheduled for May 15, along with the Khulna city polls.
