The mayoral candidates in the Khulna City Corporation (KCC) polls have promised to build a city free from waterlogging, traffic congestion, drugs, and terrorism if they win the election.
They made the pledge during an open program at the local Press Club on Monday.
At the program organized by Khulna Unnayan Sangram Samannay Committee, the mayoral aspirants answered questions from the public. Committee President Sheikh Mosharaf Hossain moderated the program.
Awami League candidate Talukder Abdul Khaleque, Communist Party of Bangladesh contender Mizanur Rahman Babu, Islami Andolan Bangladesh candidate Mozammel Haque, and Jatiya Party contestant SM Safiqur Rahman Mushfique attended the event.
However, BNP candidate Nazrul Islam Manju did not take part in the program, alleging that the organizers were biased towards the ruling party aspirant.
Manju alleged that Mosharaf had conveyed his support to Khaleque through a post on his Facebook profile.
The Khulna Unnayan Sangram Samannay Committee placed a 21-point demand before the mayoral candidates at the program for the city's development.
The KCC election will be held on May 15.
