Following the finalization of candidacy withdrawals on Monday, five candidates remain in the Khulna City Corporation (KCC) mayoral race, while 186 candidates are battling it out for councillor posts.
Of the 186 councillor candidates, 148 are running for general wards while 38 are running for reserved women’s wards.
KCC Election Returning Officer Md Yunus Ali confirmed the matter, saying Monday was the last day for candidacy withdrawals. By this day, 34 candidates withdrew from contesting for general wards, while five withdrew from the reserved wards. Nobody withdrew from the mayoral race.
The remaining candidates will be allotted their electoral symbols Tuesday morning, with mayors, general ward candidates, and reserved ward candidates receiving their symbols in that order.
Of the 39 withdrawals, 15 were BNP candidates, 11 were Awami League candidates, one was a Jatiya Party candidate, and 12 were unaffiliated with any parties.
