Dr Kamal: Polls should not be held without dissolving parliament
Gono Forum President Dr Kamal Hossain has said the 11th elections should not be held without dissolving parliament. He made the remarks at a press conference organized by his party at the National Press Club on Saturday. “The elections should be fair. It is difficult to speak about the scenario during the elections. I want participatory elections. All of us want a free and fair election. We will never let it happen if anybody attempts to divert the plan.” On army deployment during the elections Dr Kamal said: “If the military troops are required for keeping law and order then they must be deployed. “Officials who are in charge of election management should evaluate the situation and make the decision (on army deployment).” He further said: “The incumbent prime minister delivered many speeches on holding free and fair elections prior to January 22, 2007. I would have published a manifesto if I could gather all of them together. She elaborated ways of holding free and fair elections in her speeches.” Dr Kamal, who is also the chief architect of the Bangladesh constitution, said: “How will people rely on the officials who are responsible for election management if they are not neutral? “If the current political situation prevails, then there is a possibility of a similar election as the last time (the 10th national polls). “The previous elections were held as per the constitution but people’s right to vote was not ensured,” said Dr Kamal.
