The UK chapter of the BNP has staged a protest in front of the British Parliament demanding the release of its Chairperson Khaleda Zia, who has been sentenced to five years in prison for corruption.
The program, presided over by UK BNP’s President MA Malik, was organized by its General Secretary Kaisar M Ahmed on Wednesday.
Supporters and activists of the party came from various parts of the UK to join the protest with banners and festoons.
Former UK BNP advisor Shayesta Chowdhury Kuddus, former senior vice-president Abdul Hamid Chowdhury, former vice-president Mujibur Rahman Mujib, M Lutfur Rahman, among others, joined the program.
Khaleda Zia, her son Tarique Rahman, currently living in London, and three others were found guilty of embezzling donations meant for an orphanage trust set up during Khaleda’s time in office as prime minister of Bangladesh.
A Dhaka court sentenced the others to 10 years in prison for their involvement in the crime.
