Khaleda Zia’s personal physicians denied permission to visit her in jail

Update : 04 Apr 2018, 03:27 PM
Medical officers of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia have still not been able to get permission to visit her in the old Central jail. On April 4, Health Affairs Secretary of BNP Dr Mir Fawaz Hossain said: "Jail authority has not given the personal physicians of Khaleda Zia permission to visit her. Even though we tried till Tuesday midnight, we still could not get the permission." Affiliated sources have informed that Khaleda Zia might be taken to a government hospital for different tests. But whether she would receive treatment in a government hospital or not is still unconfirmed. Fawaz further said: "We are very concerned about Khaleda Zia's health. We want her own personal physicians to treat her. "We have not read the government prepared medical report on Khaleda Zia," he said. "We want the chairperson to receive treatment from those who always used to treat her." Earlier on Tuesday, Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal said that a four-member team from Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) had asked for conducting X-rays and blood tests on Khaleda Zia. Later, the four-member team conducted the tests on Khaleda Zia for an hour inside the old Dhaka Central Jail, on Tuesday. A medical report based on the tests was sent to the jail authority afterwards. The DMCH team included Prof of Orthopedics Md Shamsuzzaman Shahin, Prof of Neurology Mansur Habib, Prof of Medicine Md Tito Mia and Prof of Physical Medicine Soheli Rahman. On February 8, a special court in Dhaka sentenced the BNP chairperson to five years’ imprisonment in the Zia Orphanage Trust graft case. She was then sent to the old central jail at Nazimuddin Road in Dhaka. The Supreme Court later stayed the order issued by the High Court granting bail to Khaleda Zia in the Orphanage Trust graft case till May 8.This article was first published on banglatribune.com
