Former president and incumbent Jatiya Party Chairman HM Ershad on Wednesday said there was no blood on his hands.
The deposed dictator said: “There is no end to the murders, the enforced disappearances. A government cannot hold on to power like this. The only way to remain in office is with people’s love. The people want peace, and only the Jatiya Party can ensure that peace.
“This government only cares about power. I, have no blood on my hands. I have helped develop this country,” the special envoy to the prime minister spoke.
He was speaking ahead of the Brahmanbaria-1 (Nasirnagar) by-polls at a campaign rally in the constituency.
Ruhul Amin Howlader, general secretary of Jatiya Party, who was also at the event, said: “People only want to see Ershad in power, nobody else!”
Other Jatiya Party leaders present at the meeting appealed to the people to vote for Jatiya Party in the upcoming by-polls.
