As part of countrywide scheduled programs, BNP leaders and activists formed a human chain in Dhaka demanding their chairperson Khaleda Zia’s release from jail.
Several hundred BNP leaders and followers formed the human chain around 10:40am on Tuesday in front of Jatiya Press Club amid tight security.
The leaders and activists chanted various slogans demanding the immediate release of Khaleda Zia.
A large number of law enforcers cordoned off the protesters to fend off any trouble.
BNP’s districts and city units are also scheduled to observe the programs at their convenient time and place.
Earlier on Sunday, the party announced a fresh two-day countrywide program, including the formation of a human chain in the capital.
Since the jailing of Khaleda, the party has observed different peaceful programs, including leaflet distribution, countrywide demonstration, human chain formation, sit-ins, token hunger strike, and protest procession in five phases, demanding her release.
On February 8, BNP chief Khaleda Zia was sent to jail after a special court sentenced her to five years’ rigorous imprisonment in the Zia Orphanage Trust graft case.
