BNP senior leaders have convened a meeting to discuss the country’s latest political situation and work out the party’s next course of action.
The meeting began on Saturday around 4:35pm at BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia’s Gulshan office in Dhaka.
BNP Standing Committee members, vice chairmen, the chairperson’s advisers, joint secretaries general and organizing secretaries have joined the meeting.
This is the second joint meeting of the party’s senior leaders after Khaleda was sent to jail in a corruption case on February 8.
A Standing Committee member, wishing anonymity, said they will elaborately discuss the current political situation and work out the party’s next course of action.
“We will discuss various issues such as the legal process to secure bail for our chairperson, the upcoming election, and our plans for holding divisional rallies,” he said.
The BNP leader said the Standing Committee members will ask other senior leaders to work for strengthening the party and keeping its leaders and activists united and optimistic heading into the next general election due in December this year.
The BNP leaders will also be given necessary directives to avoid falling into any “trap” of the government and to concentrate on consolidating the unity of the party’s rank and file.
BNP acting Chairman Tarique Rahman is likely to address the meeting through videoconference from London.
