The Awami League has chalked out elaborate programs to observe Language Martyrs’ Day on Wednesday.
Ruling party President and Prime Minister Shiekh Hasina placed a floral wreath at the altar of the Central Shaheed Minar in the capital at 12am to pay homage to those who sacrificed their lives for their mother tongue in 1952.
Awami League will start the day’s programs at 6:30 in the morning by lowering the party, national and black flags to half-mast at Bangabandhu Bhaban at Dhanmondi 32, as well as at all the branch offices of the party.
Subsequently, at 7am, different units of Awami League will bring out barefoot morning processions while wearing black badges, and will pay tribute at the graves of martyrs at Azimpur graveyard before placing wreaths at the Central Shaheed Minar.
Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader yesterday urged party leaders, members and activists to observe the day in a befitting manner.
Meanwhile, the Awami League will also hold a discussion at the Krishibid Institution Auditorum on Saturday at 3pm, with party President Sheikh Hasina in chair.
