Awami League MP Shamim Osman on Thursday told parliament that some particular newspapers were engaged in character assassination of lawmakers.
But then the Narayanganj 4 MP said: “99% of journalists are honest, but 1% is very, very dishonest.”
He mentioned submitting a notice a year ago to the Parliamentary Standing Committee of Privileges for protection from newspapers whose reporting were hampering his privileges as an MP.
Shamim lamented not receiving any response even after a year.
He said: "The newspapers who wrote against us, particularly the newspaper or the group of newspapers that tried to incite 1/11... they have started attacking MPs again," he added.
Shamim continued speaking and said some journalists are out to create instability in the country.
He also asked about the response to his notice.
In response, Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury said his notice was now pending with the committee which would decide what to do.
