BNP on Thursday is going to announce another round of action programs demanding the release of its Chairperson Khaleda Zia from jail.
"However, the party will not have any program from Thursday to Saturday," BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir told reporters at the BNP chief’s Gulshan office in Dhaka on Wednesday.
"We will announce our fresh programs tomorrow (Thursday) but we will not have any program on Friday and Saturday," he said.
Fakhrul said BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi will come up with the announcement of new programs at a press briefing at the party's Naya Paltan headquarters.
A special court convicted former prime minister Khaleda and sentenced her to five years' imprisonment in the Zia Orphanage Trust corruption case on February 8. She was then sent to the old central jail at Nazimuddin Road in the city.
Hours after she was taken to jail, the party announced countrywide demonstrations for Friday and Saturday.
Later, the party announced a three-day program from Monday to Wednesday demanding her immediate release.
As part of programs, BNP observed a token hunger strike on Wednesday, formed a human chain in front of the National Press Club on Monday and staged a sit-in programme in front of the party office on Tuesday.
