Chhatra League has announced nationwide demonstrations for Sunday and Monday demanding that BNP's acting Chairperson Tarique Rahman be brought back to Bangladesh and jailed.
The students wing of the ruling Awami League's issued a statement in this regard on Saturday.
In the statement, they said Tarique Rahman should be forced to return to Bangladesh and serve the prison term handed down to him in the Zia Orphanage Trust corruption case.
Tarique should also be tried for making derogatory comments about Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibir Rahman, it added.
Signed by Chhatra League President Saifur Rahman Sohag and Secretary Jakir Hossain, the statement mentioned that the party activists will bring out protest processions in all the universities, district headquarters and metropolitan cities across around 10am on Sunday.
The activists will also bring out protest processions in all the hall of public universities as well as colleges at upazila level around 11am on Monday.
On February 8, a Dhaka court convicted BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia and sentenced her to five years’ imprisonment in the Zia Orphanage Trust graft case.
Five other accused in the case, including her son and current acting chairman Tarique Rahman, were sentenced to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment and fined Tk2.1 crore each.
