BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia has called a press conference on Wednesday afternoon, a day ahead of the verdict on a corruption case against her.
The dpress meet will be held at Khaleda's Gulshan office at 5pm, BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi announced.
A Dhaka court will announce the verdict in the Zia Orphanage Trust corruption case against Khaleda on Thursday. Khaleda is expected to talk about the verdict and national politics surrounding the issue.
Police has been on alert around the capital since Tuesday afternoon, stopping and searching vehicles and passengers. Authorities say the move is meant to prevent any chaos or unwanted activities over the verdict.
The inspector general has instructed the force to maintain law and order at any cost. The Dhaka Metropolitan Police has banned gatherings in the capital on Thursday.
Leaders of the ruling party have also issued various warnings.
BNP leader Rizvi claimed that the government's preparations for the verdict day betray the fact that the government itself wrote the verdict.
He claimed that over 1,000 BNP activists had been arrested over this.
