Jatiya Party Chairman HM Ershad on Thursday formally launched his party's campaign in Sylhet for the next general election slated for December this year.
He offered prayers at the shrine of Hazrat Shah Paranin in the afternoon. Later, he held a meeting with local party leaders at Sylhet Circuit House.
Jtiya Party leaders GM Kader, ABM Ruhul Amin Hawlader, Kazi Firoz Rashid and Ziauddin Ahmed Bablu accompanied Ershad.
Talking to reporters after offering the prayers, the JaPa chief said his party wants the next general election to be held as per the constitution, not under any caretaker or facilitating government.
"Jatiya Party doesn't believe in caretaker government. So, we demand the national election be held as per the constitution. In the upcoming election, Jatiya Party will nominate candidates for all 300 seats," he said.
Ershad said his party believes in democracy and election and that no government can be formed without an election.
