Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader said that BNP has turned into a party that makes useless complaints.
“Don't bother much about BNP, because that party only knows how to kick a fuss. We saw before Eid, BNP chief Khaleda Zia made an announcement calling for a movement against the government. But she herself left for London with her vanity bag, forgetting about the movement,” he said while addressing a convention of Lalmonorhat district unit Awami League at Zila Parishad Ground on Thursday.
Obaidul also criticized BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir for "crying" about the alleged oppression of BNP leaders and activists, saying the opposition party had done much worse when in power.
“Now, after failing in their movement, Fakhrul sometimes cries his eyes out by saying he is so stressed because of the sorrows of his activists that he can't sleep. Do you remember when you came to power in 2001? there was a bloodbath in the country. You forced Awami League leaders and activists to stay away from their areas for years. You didn't even let them stay at their homes. You set into motion a politics of killing. The people of Bangladesh have not forgotten that,” the Awami League general secretary said.
Obaidul further said that the people of Bangladesh would not return to the "dark days" of BNP rule, adding that the opposition party can no longer reach the people and was only capable of holding press briefings behind closed doors.
