Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader on Tuesday alleged that Khaleda Zia and Tarique Rahman are plotting to kill Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina from London and are allegedly also trying to remove the Awami League (AL) government from power. At a press conference at the party’s Dhanmondi office, he said their activities must be investigated. “We have urged Scotland Yard, MI5 and MI6 to investigate Khaleda Zia and Tarique Rahman’s activities and their conspiracy against Bangladesh.” Obaidul was speaking at the press conference after a joint meeting with Awami League leaders and all its affiliated organisations. The roads, transport and bridges minister also said members of the ruling party and all its affiliated organisations will welcome Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina back to Dhaka on October 7 by standing on the sides of the road from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport to Ganabhaban. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, also the president of Awami League, will return home on October 7, after her 22-day-long official visit to New York to attend the 72nd Session of the United Nations General Assembly. The premier was scheduled to return on October 2, but the date was changed due to her gallbladder surgery. Presidents and secretaries of all affiliated Awami League organisations, joint-general secretaries and organising secretaries of Awami League, and lawmakers from constituencies of Dhaka were present at the meeting, among others.
