BNP to press for sheltering Rohingyas

The BNP will hold a countrywide human chain on Friday demanding Bangladesh government provides shelter for Rohingyas fleeing fresh round of violence in Myanmar’s Rakhine state. The human chain programme will be held from 10am to 11am on September 8. BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi made the announcement Wednesday while addressing a party programme in Nawabganj, Dhaka. He said thousands of Rohinga peoples were waiting on the bank of Naf River seeking shelter in Bangladesh. Rizvi on Monday urged the government to stand beside Rohingyas. Earlier on August 28, BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia expressed deep concern and condemnation over the Myanmar security forces’ crackdown on Rohingyas, leaving hundreds of people killed and displaced thousands of Rohingyas. The BNP chief also urged the government to take diplomatic initiatives to send back the Rohingyas after ensuring security of their lives and properties.
