Hanif: Khaleda and Tarique planned August 21 grenade attack
Awami League Joint General Secretary Mahbubul Alam Hanif said BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia and her son Tarique Rahman were behind the grenade attack on an AL rally on August 21, 2004. "The grenade attack did not take place without the consent of the then head of state, Khaleda Zia. She cannot avoid the responsibility of the attack and she will have to face trial," he said, speaking as the chief guest at a discussion at Dhaka Reporters Unity (DRU). About the court verdict on the 16th constitutional amendment, Hanif said, "We did not make any comment regarding the verdict and we shall not talk against the verdict...we will file a review petition."
