Gopalganj unit Awami League and it's associates have taken up month-long elaborate programmes to observe the 42nd
death anniversary of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and the National Mourning Day.
Offering of wreaths at the Bangabandhu shrine in Tungipara and offering of prayers simultaneously marked the start of the mourning at the site on Tuesday where the country's founder is laid to his eternal rest.
Jubo League, Chhatra League, Mohila Awami League, Sechcha Sebak League, Krishak League and many other political and cultural organisations participated the programme.
Different programmes including holding discussions, poetry recitation, painting competition, photographic exhibition, hamd and nat competition and tree plantation would be observed during the entire month of August in a coordinated manner by the front organizations, party allies, and pro-liberation forces, said sources.
On the fateful night of August 15 in 1975, Bangabandhu was assassinated in a military putsch by a dozen rogue army officers - leaving the country in deep anguish and unending remorse by all who loved and admired him as unparalleled leader of the independent sovereign country.
