Chief Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha said a group of people from the administration were creating distance between the judiciary and the prime minister by providing her with misinformation.
He also said that the judiciary is not being allowed to work to its fullest capacity granted by the constitution of the country, which is causing the rate of crime to escalate.
In a speech at the inauguration of Judicial Service Commission's “Online Application Registration System” at the Judicial Administration Training Institute (JATI) in Dhaka on Saturday, the chief justice highlighted several key concerns related to the independent and smooth operations of the judiciary.
Surendra Kumar Sinha said different problems of the judiciary were not being reported to the prime minister in the right manner.
“Some people in the administration do not present these issues correctly, rather, they present quite the opposite information to the head of the state,” the chief justice said.
“I hope they will provide the head of the state with the true picture of how things are with the judiciary,” he added.
A notion is being wrongly established that the judiciary is an opponent to the executive body of the government, the chief justice said.
The judiciary never went against the executive or the government, he stressed.
The Chief Justice, speaking at the programme as the chief guest, said if misunderstanding between the two wings of the government continues, the government will be affected.
He stressed on ensuring coordination between the judiciary and the executive body of the government.
The chief justice also opined that if the judiciary was allowed to perform independently, crimes like corruption and terrorism can be curbed.
During his half-an-hour long speech, Surendra Kumar Sinha said a political government cannot think beyond its political ideology, which is why the judiciary has been separated to ensure the rule of law beyond political pressure and ideologies.
“Political government will act politically. There is a boundary for them which has been described in the constitution. The constitution has also described what the judiciary can or cannot do,” he said.
The online application system inaugurated at the event will facilitate applicants seeking judiciary jobs to complete applications online.
The programme was chaired by Justice Hasan Foez, chairman of Bangladesh Judicial Service Commission. Appellate Division's Justice Md Abdul Wahhab Miah, Attorney General Mahbubey Alam spoke at the occasion, among others.
