New Election Commission sworn in

Chief Justice SK Sinha administered the oath taking ceremony which began at the Supreme Court Judges’ Lounge around 3pm on Wednesday.

The newly appointed Election Commission members are Chief Election Commissioner KM Nurul Huda and Commissioners Mahbub Talukder, Rafiqul Islam, Kabita Khanam and Shahadat Hossain Chowdhury.

Justices of the Supreme Court Appellate Division, among others, were present at the programme.

Members of the newly sworn in Election Commission were appointed by President Abdul Hamid earlier this month.

Bangladesh have its first female election commissioner in Kabita Khanom, a historical moment in the Election Commission’s 45 years.

All of the 11 chief election commissioners and 23 election commissioners who have served in the EC since 1972 have been male.
