Local sources informed that the clash was caused by an ongoing power struggle between two AL groups led by Chaulia UP Chairman Hafizer Rahman and Chaulia UP ward number one AL President Akidul Islam.
An altercation had taken place on Saturday night between the supporters of the rival groups. The following morning on Sunday, supporters of Hafizer and Akidul locked into a clash armed with lethal weapons.
Nine of the critically injured were admitted to Magura Sadar Hospital. People involved in the clash ransacked at least 20 houses and five shops.
The police fired at least 15 blanks to dissipate the clash.
Magura police station officer-in-charge AKM Azmal Huda said that the situation was brought under control. He also informed the Dhaka Tribune that the police arrested five persons during the clash.
