Miru was organising secretary of the Sirajganj district Awami League. His associate AKM Nasir Uddin has also been suspended from the Shahjadpur upazila AL on the same charge.
“We got their suspension letter, signed by the party’s Office Secretary Dr Abdus Sobhan Golap dated February 5, on Wednesday night,” district Awami League’s Vice-President KM Hossain Ali confirmed it to the Dhaka Tribune.
Miru and Nasir have been asked to explain why they should not be expelled from the party within the next 15 working days .
“The letter will be sent to them through the jail super on Thursday,” the AL leader added.
Shimul, a correspondent of daily Samakal, was shot during a clash between the supporters of Shahjadpur Government College unit Chhatra League President Bijoy Mahmud Mamun and Miru’s brother Pintu over previous enmity.
Shimul later succumbed to his injuries on the following day while being taken to Dhaka.
Miru claimed that the bullets were fired from both sides. But police in primary investigation have found that the bullets were fired only from the mayor’s gun.
