Around 1:30am today, Labaid Emergency Doctor Morshed Shafiul Hasan said Suranjit had been put on life support. He has been at the CCU for the past 2-3 days under the care of Prof Baren Chakraborty.
A hospital source told the Dhaka Tribune that Suranjit is reportedly diagnosed with lung infection and hemoglobin deficiency.
The 71-year-old politician from Sylhet joined Awami League in the early '90s. Suranjit was appointed railway minister in 2012 but resigned within five months after a bribery scandal. He was later reappointed as a minister without portfolio.
