Shakhawat vows to fight till end
“We will not boycott the polls if the people get the chance to exercise their right,” he told the reporters after casting his vote on Thursday morning. He said: “The environment is still congenial in the polling centres. I am urging the people of Narayanganj to come to polling centres. “BNP will win the polls if the voting ends in free and fair manner.” A total 156 councillor candidates are fighting for 27 posts while 38 women are fighting for nine reserved seats. Awami League’s Selina Hayat Ivy and BNP-supported Shakhawat Hossain are the two top mayor hopefuls among six. A total of 474,931 voters – 239,662 male and 235,269 female – are expected to exercise their right to elect their candidates.
