Senior Awami League leader and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader has said that the main goal of the National Council of the Awami League is to prevent communalism and militancy.
"The main commitment of the council is to establish a non-communal state as dreamt by Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman by defeating communalism and militancy under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina," the minister said on Wednesday, reports BSS.
AL Presidium Member Quader, who is also the convener of office sub-committee of the national council preparatory committee, said this at a meeting of the sub-committee at the party chief's Dhanmondi political office.
The two-day council will begin at Suhrawardy Udyan on October 22.
Other party leaders including Organising Secretary Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury, Law Affairs Secretary Advocate Abdul Matin Khosru, Information and Research Secretary Advocate Afzal Hossein and Executive Committee Member Sujit Roy Nandi were present.
The meeting decided that all-out preparations for the 20th national council would be completed by October 19, Quader said.
