He was laid to rest in his village home with state honour
Former land minister Shamsur Rahman Sherif, also the president of the Awami League’s Pabna district unit, has passed away at the age of 80.
The five-time MP, also a freedom fighter, breathed his last around 5:30am on Thursday at the United Hospitals Ltd in Dhaka, UNB reports.
Sherif had been suffering from various ailments and had been undergoing treatment at the ICU for the last several days.
His first namaj-e-janaza was held in front of his residence at Ishwardi municipality in Pabna, where he was given the state honour.
His second namaj-e-janaza was held at 6pm at his village home in Lorgikunda village, in Ishwardi.
He was laid to rest beside the graves of his parents in the family graveyard.
President Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina have expressed deep shock at the death of the veteran politician.
They prayed for the eternal peace of the departed soul and conveyed their condolences to the bereaved family members.
