Ex-JU student Zahir battling for life

The 39-year-old is undergoing treatment at Square Hospital since June 11

Update : 25 Jun 2019, 12:02 AM

Zahir Sumon, a 30th batch student of Jahangirnagar University’s Drama and Dramatics department, is fighting for his life at Square Hospital.

The 39-year-old designer of Boishakhi Television and freelance producer was admitted to the hospital with life-threatening conditions on June 11.

Doctors initially diagnosed him with multiple cardiac issues — including a weak valve which have since failed — caused by rheumatic fever.

While undergoing treatment for lung infection and heart congestion, Zahir also suffered a stroke six days after he was admitted to the hospital, turning his otherwise simple treatment into a complicated and life-threatening one.

Unable to speak and with a paralyzed right side of his body, Zahir is now under observation at the high dependency unit of Square Hospital. But there is high risk of him suffering another stroke.

Zahir needs to be urgently flown abroad for treatment, as doctors here are not going for his high risk surgery. However, it is impossible for his family to bear the high transport cost and the subsequent cost of the medical treatment.

An estimated Tk40 lakh will be needed for Zahir’s transport and treatment abroad, and that is why immediate help is needed.

To help his family overcome this obstacle, a public campaign has been launched to raise the funds immediately.

Anyone can donate and deposit funds in his brother’s bank account.
