Journalist Mahfuz Ullah laid to rest

He passed away on Saturday morning at the age of 69

Senior journalist Mahfuz Ullah has been laid to rest at Mirpur Martyred Intellectuals' Graveyard.

Family members, relatives, friends and colleagues buried him at the graveyard in the city around 7pm on Sunday.

Mahfuz, who had been on life support at Bumrungrad International Hospital in Thailand, passed away on Saturday morning at the age of 69.

A flight of Thai Airways carrying his body reached Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka around 12:42am Sunday.

His first namaz-e-janaza was held after Zohr prayers at Dormitory Jame Mosque in Green Road.

His body was brought to the National Press Club around 4:15pm and his second janaza was held there at 5:20pm.Later, his colleagues, political leaders and representatives of different organisations paid homage to Mahfuz by placing wreaths on his coffin.

Former Dhaka University VC Prof Emajuddin Ahmed, former commerce minister Tofail Ahmed, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, Vice Chairman Abdullah Al Noman and standing committee members Moudud Ahmed, Nazrul Islam Khan and Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury, JSD President ASM Abdur Rob, Bikalpa Dhara leader Shamsher Mobin Chowdhury, Election Commissioner Mahbub Talukder, senior journalists Reazuddin Ahmed and Iqbal Sobhan Chowdhury, and Press Club President Saiful Alam, among others, participated in the janaza.

Mahfuz’s son, Mostafa Habib Antu, said they will arrange a milad mahfil at the press club after Asr prayers on May 1 to seek divine blessings for his father's departed soul.
