The minister accused BNP-led governments of committing irregularities in the MPO process
Education Minister Dipu Moni has laid emphasis on quality assessment of the monthly payment order (Education Minister Dipu Moni)-listed non-government educational institutions.
The education minister alleged that educational institutions were included in the MPO system in the past without any quality assessment, reports UNB.
She came up with the remarks in parliament on Sunday while taking part in the motion on allocation of funds under the Appropriation Bill of 2019-20 fiscal year. Ten lawmakers from opposition BNP and Jatiya Party protested her demand of allocating Tk29,624.90 crore for the next fiscal year.
Dipu Moni accused Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP)-led governments of committing irregularities in the MPO process in the past.
"BNP and Jatiya Party had been in power for a long time. We witnessed the misuse of power during their regimes. We are aware about the allocations, quality of education, and quality of educational institutions at that time," the minister said.
During the BNP regime, unnecessary numbers of educational institutions were included in the MPO list by their ministers, she claimed.
"As a result, the then BNP government felt the necessity of re-examining the quality of the educational institutions listed under MPO," she added.
