State Minister for Disaster Management and Relief Dr Md Enamur Rahman said the government has decided to construct 152 cyclone centers in the country’s coastal areas.
“On April 24, 2008, the Planning Commission instructed the Disaster Management and Relief Ministry to construct 1,072 cyclone shelter centres in the country,” he said while replying to a starred question placed by Awami League lawmaker Nasimul Alam Chowdhury at the parliament.
Enamur said the government has already constructed 100 multipurpose cyclone shelters in the coastal and cyclone-prone areas in the first phase.
He also informed the House that 220 more cyclone shelter centers are being constructed in the second phase.
The minister said the Disaster Management and Relief Ministry has a plan to build 752 more multipurpose cyclone centres in the next phases.
