Man kills partner as she asks to get married

Police have arrested two people, including the main suspect of the murder, from Kendurbag village in Begumganj upazila, Noakhali

A woman has reportedly been killed by her partner in Noakhali, after a dispute between them when the woman pressured the man to marry her.

The victim has been identified as Shahana ,25, daughter of Shah Alam of Puran Bazar village in Chandpur. Police on Wednesday retrieved her body from a sack that was dumped in a waterbody in Karmolla village of Noakhali Sadar upazila.

Police on Thursday arrested two people, including the main suspect of the murder from Kendurbag village in Begumganj upazila, by tracking their mobile phones, said Sudharampur Model police station Officer-in-Charge (OC), Nabir Uddin.

The arrested have been identified as Yasin Arafat, 26, the main suspect and partner of the victim, and his associate Md Rasel, 24.

A Noakhali court sent them to jail after their confessional statement under Section 164 of the Code of Criminal Procedure.

OC Nabir Uddin said Yasin Arafat developed a romantic relationship with Shahana, in talking over the phone.

On Tuesday, Shahana came to Noakhali from Chandpur on Yasin's request. Disputes occurred when Shahana put pressure on him for marriage. Thereafter, Yasin and his accomplice Rasel killed her at an under construction building in Noannoi union of Sadar upazila, said OC Nabir on Thursday, quoting the suspects.

"After retrieving the body, police arrested the suspects of the murder within 24 hours," OC Nabir added.
