NGO employee working at Daulatdia brothel missing

Update : 17 Nov 2021, 06:05 PM

An NGO employee working on women and children’s rights at the Daulatdia brothel in Rajbari has been missing for the last week, according to police and relatives.

Lily Begum, 38, vice-president of private development organization Mukti Mohila Shamiti, which works on human and women’s rights in the brothel and surrounding areas, has been missing since November 10, said police

Her nephew Shafi Islam filed a General Diary with Goalanda police over the matter on November 15.

“We are using all our technological resources to trace Lily’s location,” said Goalanda Ghat police OC Abdullah Al Taybib.

He added that police were looking into possible motives behind the disappearance.

According to Lily’s nephew Shafi, she owns a house within the brothel and they regularly kept in touch.

Shafi said she married a local named Latif Sheikh but his family didn’t accept the marriage.

“I found her phone switched off on November 10 and went to Daulatdia the next day,” he said.

He added that neighbours informed him that she had gone to Latif’s house the day before and hadn’t returned since then.

Latif said: “Lily came to my house because we have had a good relationship for years. When she wanted to leave, I made my son get her a rickshaw and haven’t been in touch with her since.”

Mukti Mohila Shamity Executive Director Marjina Begum said Lily had likely made many enemies over the years due to her work with the women at the brothel.

“We are worried about our safety as well,” she said and called for the administration’s intervention over the matter.
