Awami League suspends 10 rebel UP candidates in Narail

The UP polls are scheduled for November 28

Update : 02 Apr 2022, 10:44 AM

Narail district Awami League has suspended 10 rebel candidates from the Awami League and party affiliates for violating party directives in the Union Parishad (UP) elections in Kalia upazila.

District unit President Subash Chandra Bose and General Secretary Nizam Uddin Khan announced the expulsion in a letter sent on Monday.

On Wednesday, Krishnapad Ghosh, general secretary and chairman of Kalia upazila, said: “It was recommended to expel the candidates, as they were not following the party’s directives for the upcoming UP elections.”

Polls in 12 UPs under the upazila will be held on November 28.

It is against the rules of the Awami League to take part in the elections if a candidate disobeys party directives. As per the party's constitution and organizational discipline, 10 people are suspended from the party and other affiliate organizations. Their participation in the election against the party-nominated candidates has caused divisions among the leaders and workers.

The suspended leaders include district Awami League Executive Member Mahamudul Hasan and Kalia Upazila Awami League Organizational Secretary Mallik Monirul Islam.
