Another woman was stabbed and injured by her husband in Savar
The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of police has arrested a man who killed his wife before dismembering her limbs in Pabna.
The accused, Tejem Mollah, 42, who fled after the murder, was arrested from Natore on Tuesday afternoon.
The incident, which turned into a gruesome murder from a case of domestic violence, took place in the early hours of Tuesday at Falia village in Maligachha union of Sadar upazila, reports a correspondent from Pabna.
The deceased was identified as Hamida Khatun, 32, confirmed Pabna Sadar police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Aminul Islam.
He said: “Police are investigating the incident. We will take legal action once we receive a written complaint.”
Victim’s brother Hamidul Islam said Hamida used to endure frequent beatings from Tejem whenever she would protest the fact that he was having an extramarital affair.
“Early Tuesday, Tejem called to confess to killing my sister. We rushed to my sister’s house and discovered her corpse hacked to pieces,” added Hamidul,
Later, police recovered the body and sent it to Pabna General Hospital Morgue for an autopsy.
Following his arrest, Tejem initially confessed to his involvement in the murder.
Police also recovered the knife used in the murder based on his confession.
Meanwhile in Savar, a man tried to kill his wife during a fight centring her alleged involvement in an extramarital affair.
At one point, using a sharp garden tool Morshed Miya, 40, hacked and injured Laili Begum, 30, Tuesday morning.
Subsequently, Morshed poured boiling hot water on himself in an attempt to commit suicide, reports our Gazipur correspondent.
The incident took place at 9:30am at the couple’s rented place in Jirani area of Ashulia, confirmed Ashulia police station Sub-Inspector (SI) Kawshar Hamid.
Locals apprehended Morshed and handed him over to police.
Both the injured are currently undergoing treatment at two separate local hospitals.
