The Bangladesh Coast Guard (BCG) confiscated around 100 maund of shrimps, injected with jelly-like substances to increase their weight from Khan Jahan Ali bridge (Rupsha Bridge) in Khulna.
Seven traders, as well as the driver and helper of the trucks, were detained during the raid by BCG Station Rupsha at 10:30pm on Tuesday, said Lt Commander Md Hasanuzzaman, media officer of BCG.
Six of them received one month of imprisonment, while one was granted amnesty by a mobile court led by an executive magistrate and upazila fisheries officers of Rupsha.
The seized trucks were handed over to Rupsha police station for further legal procedures.
The seized shrimps were later destroyed and dumped into the Rupsha River by BCG personnel.
