Four children, including two siblings, drowned while bathing in a pond at the Argi Naogaon area of Sherpur, Naogaon at 2pm on Saturday.
The deceased were identified as Farhad, 6, Suraiya, 10, Khadija Khatun,6, Asha, 8.
According to the locals, a total of six children went to the pond to take a bath. Four of them became trapped in the mud, but the other two were able to escape
After returning home, the survivors informed their families about the situation
Tuku Mandal, father to Farhad and Suraiya, said locals rushed to the pond when they heard the two children screaming for help. When they got to the pond, they found the other four children unconscious
Duty doctors declared the children dead when they were taken to Naogaon Adhunik Sadar Hospital.
Naogaon Sadar police station Officer-in-Charge Rajibul Islam said that the area had been inspected and the bodies of the four children handed over to their families.
