Another juvenile accused has been given bail
A Comilla court has ordered the police to interrogate 16 people, arrested in a case filed over attack on Chandmoni Rakkhakali Temple of Comilla town on October 13, at jail gate for two days.
Comilla’s First Senior Judicial Cognizance Court Judge Nursat Jahan Urmi gave the order on Tuesday after Kotwali police Sub-Inspector Alim Khan produced the accused before it seeking remand.
Another accused – a juvenile – arrested in the same case, filed under the Special Powers Act, was given bail by the First Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal.
An angry mob vandalized a number of Durga Puja venues and temples in the town as tension mounted after a video of the Holy Quran kept on the lap of an idol at the Nanuardighi Puja venue went viral. Many shared the video calling for attacks on Hindu sites on allegations of sacrilege.
Police have arrested Iqbal Hossain, the man who placed the Quran, Foyez Ahmed, who streamed the whole thing live on Facebook, among others in 10 cases filed in Comilla.
Anti-Hindu attacks later spread across the country, leading to the law enforcers retaliating with gunshots in some places. At least five people died in clashes with police while three Hindu men were killed during the attacks.
