After completion of a 15-day training, 150 vulnerable people have been given tools and devices for earning a living
A total of 150 ethnic community people including 80 women were given necessary tools for income generation to make them self-reliant.
Of them, 75 got house building devices, 50 received materials for preparing block boutique and nakshi kantha and 25 got electrical and house
wearing machineries free of cost.
They were given the support after completion of 15-day training on the trades and vocational lesson at Nachole Upazila in Chapainawabganj district on Monday.
Under a project, titled "Fighting Forced Labour with Adivasi and Dalit Communities in South Asia", the skill and capacity building assistances
were provided at a simple ceremony following health rules amid the Covid-19 pandemic.
The three-year project is being implemented in 50 villages under Tanore Upazila in Rajshahi and Nachole Upazila in Chapainawabganj districts aimed to address the systemic and structural vulnerabilities of marginalized agricultural communities for eliminating the child labour.
The Agriculture Sustainable and Socio-economic development Organization (ASSEDO) has been implementing the project with financial and technical support of the European Union and Traidcraft Exchange.
The project aims at making 4,000 youths of 2,000 households self-reliant engaging them in various income-generating activities.
With Upazila Nirbahi Officer Sharif Ahmed in the chair, the distribution ceremony was addressed, among others, by Upazila Chairman Abdul Kader, Vice-chairman Jannatun Nayeem, Upazila Livestock Officer Sharmin Akter and ASSEDO Executive Director Rabiul Alam.
Earlier, 1,500 other youths including 800 females from 1,000 ethnic minority families were given different machinery for making money with cash support, said Rabiul Alam.
Of them, 350 got building construction instruments, 250 electrical and house wearing, 190 Mobile servicing equipment, 60 beef fattening materials, 150 tailoring inputs, 105 tiles fitting materials and 100 goat rearing inputs.
Simultaneously, they were imparted practical training on the respective trades and vocational education to make them efficient.
At least 20 persons have got jobs in different private sectors and are doing their work successfully.
