District unit president warns of action for involvement in communal activities
The Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) has relieved six leaders of the Satkhira district committee on charges of spreading communal hatred on social media.
The relieved leaders include Ariful Islam, organisational secretary of Kushkhali union unit; Nur Alam, general secretary of Assasuni upazila's Shovonali union unit; and Yousuf Ali Sujon, general secretary of Dargahpur union unit.
The three others are Ashikur Rahman Reza, president of Protapnagar union unit; Mostafizur Rahman, general secretary of Kadakati union unit; and Nur Islam, general secretary of Tala upazila's Kholishkhali union unit.
According to a press release issued on Sunday and signed by district unit BCL President Ashikur Rahman, they were relieved for being involved in anti-party ideology and activities by posting provocative remarks on Facebook.
Ashikur also threatened tough action, saying: “Chhatra League is a non-communal organization. Strict action will be taken if anyone is found involved in communal activities.”
Since October 13, Hindu temples, Durga Puja venues, houses and businesses were attacked, vandalized and looted in at least 20 districts of the country over the alleged defamation of the Quran in Comilla.
