The executive magistrate was conducting a mobile court against illegally parked public transports at the time
A group of transport workers assaulted and injured Assistant Commissioner (Land) and Executive Magistrate Abdullah Al Rony while he was operating a mobile court in Tangail’s Bhuapur upazila.
The incident took place at Bhuapur bus stand area on Tuesday afternoon.
The attack led to the government official bleeding from the nose. Locals later rescued the magistrate and took him away to safety.
Earlier in the day, Executive Magistrate Abdullah Al Rony was conducting the mobile court in order to take action against illegally parked public transports in front of Bhuapur bus stand and the front gate of the Upazila Administration Office.
Two transport workers were sentenced to seven days of imprisonment and fined Tk5,000 at the time.
The accused were Harunur Rashid, 40, and Manik.
Meanwhile, the transport workers, outraged over the imprisonment of the workers, blocked the road. They then assaulted the executive magistrate.
Police later brought the situation under control.
Bhuapur police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Abdul Wahab Miah said that police personnel were in a police van with the two sentenced workers when the other agitated workers swooped on the magistrate.
A case was filed against the workers with Bhuapur police station in this connection.
However, he declined to make any comments on the issue.
