Dr Ashrafunnesa rejected the allegations as baseless after interrogation last year
The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has filed a case against Dr Ashrafunnesa, director of the IEM unit of the Directorate General of Family Planning (DGFP), over embezzling of Tk1.76 crore.
Her cousin, Faizul Haque, owner of Sukorno International, encashed a bill of Tk1 crore and her nephew, the owner of Ruhi Enterprise, received a bill of Tk85 lakh without doing any work.
ACC Deputy Director Md Salahuddin filed the case at the commission’s integrated district office-1 on Sunday.
During her tenure from 2018 to 2020, Ashrafunnesa misused her powers to create fake vouchers and embezzled Tk1.76 crore.
Dr Ashrafunnesa was interrogated by the ACC last year, and she rejected the allegations as baseless.
The commission in its primary investigation found that Dr Ashrafunnesa embezzled around Tk7 crore by showing fake bills for fabricated workshops, seminars, and training programs.
She has also been accused of embezzling hundreds of crores in collusion with contractors giving quotations for work that was never done.
The commission found that a total of 39 quotation bills worth Tk10 crore were issued by the IEM unit chief during 2019-20 fiscal year.
