A school headmaster in Mongla, Bagerhat sent over a hundred students back home because they were not wearing the proper white school shoes.

The incident occurred at the St. Paul's High School on Tuesday morning, while the headmaster of the school, Jayanta Andrew Costa, was performing a uniform inspection.

Informed, Mongla Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Kamalesh Majumder and Secondary Education Officer SM Anwarul Kuddus ordered the school to take the students back to the classroom.

However, many of them went back home already, following the incident.

According to the students, they thought the authority would inform their parents about a change in the school dress code. But they were unaware of the white shoes being a part of the school uniform.

Contacted, Headmaster Jayanta Andrew Costa said: “The students were sent back home so that they could come back to school with right shoes on.”

UNO Kamalesh Majumder said: “There shouldn’t be a dress code obligation in schools during the pandemic. I have talked to the headmaster about it,”

There won’t be any further complications about this, he said.
