A 27-year-old youth has been sentenced to a month in jail in Khulna for seeing patients at a private chamber without a medical degree.

The accused has been identified as Tanmoy Adhikari. He was detained by the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in the Dumuria Bazaar area of Dumuria upazila in Khulna Monday night.

Dumuria Executive Magistrate Abdul Wadud handed down the punishment to the accused under the Medical and Dental Council Act.

In 2020, the then Assistant District Commissioner (Land) Sanjib Das sentenced Tanmoy to 15 days in prison and imposed a fine of Tk50,000 for the same offence, according to the RAB.

After Sanjib was transferred, Tanmoy reopened his chamber at Monwara Super Market in Dumuria Bazaar and started seeing patients again. A few months ago, on the basis of a complaint, the current Assistant District Commissioner (Land) Moiniruzzaman warned Tanmoy.

However, Tanmoy continued to see patients after shifting his chamber to a different location.
