Last week, a third-grader tested positive in Kotalipara upazila
The Upazila Primary Education Office has closed the classroom of a school as a student of Beenapani Government Primary got Covid-19 in Gopalganj.
Monalisa Islam, a fifth-grader, tested positive for the deadly virus on September 21.
Civil Surgeon Dr Sujat Ahmed assured that the student was in good health.
Earlier, a grade-three student was also attacked by the deadly virus in Kotalipara upazila of Gopalganj on September 17. The school authorities declared an indefinite closure of that particular class, just four days after the school had reopened.
Class teacher Manimul Haque said Monalisa came to school when it reopened on September 12. Her temperature was tested on September 14. There were no symptoms that day, he added.
Manimul further said: “She stopped coming to school from September 15. On September 21, her mother informed me on the phone that Monalisa had contracted the virus.”
Her mother Mitu Khanam said that on September 16, she had a fever. Later she tested positive on September 21.
“I admitted her to the Covid ward of Gopalganj General Hospital. After two days, her condition improved. No other family member was affected by the virus before,” she added.
"We are in constant touch with her family for further updates," said Parveen Akhter, headmaster of the school.
“The room where Monalisa had taken classes has been shut down by the Upazila Primary Education Office. All other classes are going on as usual,” said Rubaiya Yasmin, Upazila Primary Education Officer.
