A man was killed in a clash between two groups of worshipers allegedly over a dispute centring the Jummah Azan at a local mosque in Muradnagar upazila of Comilla
The incident took place Friday afternoon at the Kurakhal Central Jame Mosque in Kurakhal village under Bangra Bazar police station in the upazila.
The deceased was identified as Abu Hanif Khan, 45, of Kurakhal village.
Meanwhile, at least seven people from both sides were injured in the clash. Three of them have been sent to Dhaka. The other four are undergoing treatment at Muradnagar Upazila Health Complex.
Bangra West Union Chairman Ruhul Amin said: “The worshipers of Kurakhal Central Jame Mosque are divided into two groups. There has been a long-running dispute between them over various issues of the mosque and as a sequel, there was a clash between the two sides of the worshipers over the loudness of the call to prayer on Friday. One person was killed. Seven others were injured.”
Bangra Bazar police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Kamruzzaman Talukder said police recovered the body of the deceased. “The matter of the clash is being investigated.”
