Accused arrested after a month as no case was filed after the incident
Police arrested a man on Friday for reportedly raping his 16-year-old daughter at Saltha upazila, Faridpur.
The matter came to light after the girl attempted to kill herself recently.
Her mother filed a case on Friday against the man with Saltha police a little over a month after the incident. He was taken into custody later in the day.
According to the family and police, the accused has married three times. He used to live at a rented house in Gopalganj's Muksudpur along with his first wife and two daughters.
At one point, the two daughters moved to their grandfather’s house, when the accused attempted to sexually harass the elder daughter. Sometime later, the 19-year old daughter took a job at a garment factory in Dhaka and the younger one moved back to his father’s house.
On the night of July 30, the accused allegedly drugged the younger daughter and raped her multiple times.
Recently, the girl attempted suicide by taking poison. Her father admitted her to a local hospital and fled.
Later, she went back to her grandfather’s house with the help of her mother and sister.
Saltha police OC Asikuzzaman said the accused was produced before a court and it sent him to jail Friday.
"The girl was also sent to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical Hospital in Faridpur town for medical examinations," he added.
