Mega projects – Padma Bridge, metro rail and Karnaphuli tunnel – will also be inaugurated next year
Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader has hoped that the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) service from Gazipur to Dhaka airport would be opened next year along with much-anticipated mega projects – Padma Bridge, metro rail and Karnaphuli tunnel.
While visiting the ongoing construction works of the BRT Project at Tongi on Friday, he admitted that the BRT project was causing huge sufferings to the people of Gazipur and northern districts.
The minister said the BRT project progress work stood at 63.27% till date.
Quader, also the Awami League General Secretary, said the drainage system on either side of the road remained in very bad condition.

“Though the people are suffering a lot during this monsoon, I hope they won’t have to suffer next year. Vehicles will run smoothly on this road,” he added.
“I hope the prime minister will be able to inaugurate the BRT project in December next year along with the much-anticipated major mega projects – Padma Bridge, metro rail and Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Tunnel beneath the Karnaphuli River in Chittagong,” the minister said.
