He is the uncle of deceased ameer Junaid Babunagari
Hefazat-e-Islam has selected senior leader of the platform Muhibullah Babunagari as its new ameer after Junaid Babunagari died on Thursday.
The decision was made by senior leaders of the Qawmi madrasa-based platform before the Namaz-e-Janaza of Junaid Babunagari on Thursday night.
Muhibullah was the chief adviser of Hefazat convening committee announced on June 7.
He is also the director of Babunagar Madrasa at Fatikchhari in Chittagong.
Junaid Babunagari’s uncle Muhibullah was the former senior vice chairman of Islami Okiyo Jote. He left the post after IOJ quit the BNP-led alliance.
He served as the senior nayeb-e-ameer of Hefazat when Ahmad Shah Shafi was the chief of Hefazat.
Junaid Babunagari died on Thursday morning while undergoing treatment at a hospital in Chittagong. He was 67.
He suffered a stroke at the Hathazari Madrasa around 11am. Later he was taken to the CSCR Hospital where doctors declared him dead around 12:30pm.
Junaid Babunagari had been suffering from different old age complications including kidney problems and diabetes.
